Meter Reading Estimate Codes

Meter Reading Estimate Codes are used to describe how a meter reading was taken at a particular time. Meter reading estimate codes allow technicians to indicate whether a meter was properly read, or whether an estimate was entered due to a broken or malfunctioning meter. These values populate the Estimate Code drop-down menu on the Utility module's Readings page, when the Detail entry method is selected.

To open the Meter Reading Estimate Codes page:

  1. Open the Administration Menu page.

  2. Under the UTILITY ADMINISTRATION heading, click Meter Reading Estimate Codes.

Adding a meter reading estimate code allows you to define the values that are included in the Estimate Code drop-down menu on the Utility Readings page when entering a manual meter reading. To create a new meter reading estimate code:

  1. Click the Add Meter Reading Estimate Code link.

    The Add Meter Reading Estimate Code dialog box opens.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the code.

    The name you enter must be unique.

  3. In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.

    The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.

  4. In the Description field, enter a description of the code.

  5. Select any of the following check boxes to enable a meter reading estimate code option.

    • Recurring Estimate – Indicates that this meter reading estimate code is used frequently. Selecting this option causes the estimate code to be included in the Estimate Code drop-down menu on the Utility Reading – Manual Entry page when the Detail entry method is selected.
    • Utility Adjustment – This feature is not currently implemented and will be more fully defined in a future release.
    • Inspection Trigger – This feature is not currently implemented and will be more fully defined in a future release.

  6. Click ADD.

    The meter reading estimate code is added to the list. The name of the user who added the code and the date and time when it was added are displayed.

Meter reading estimate codes can be modified. For example, if you want to change the value that users see, you can modify the name. To edit a meter reading estimate code:

  1. Click the Edit link to the right of the meter reading estimate code you want to edit.

    The Edit Meter Reading Estimate Code dialog box opens.

  2. Modify any of the following values:

    • Name – the value that users see
    • Tab Order – the position in which the meter reading estimate code will be displayed in drop-down menus
    • Description – information about the meter reading estimate code
    • Recurring Estimate – allows code to be used on the Readings – Manual Entry page
    • Utility Adjustment – not currently implemented
    • Inspection Trigger – not currently implemented

  3. Click UPDATE.

    The modified meter reading estimate code parameters, including the name of the user who edited them and the date and time when they were edited, are displayed.

ClosedDelete a Meter Reading Estimate Code

Meter reading estimate codes that have not been used can be deleted from the system. If a meter reading estimate code has been associated with a reading, it cannot be deleted.

To delete a meter reading estimate code:

  1. Click the Edit link to the right of the meter reading estimate code you want to delete.

    The Edit Meter Reading Estimate Code dialog box opens.

  2. Click the Delete link in the top right corner of the dialog box.

    A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.
